An Indonesian entrepreneur, graduated from the United States, the founder and chairman of
Mahaka Group – a media, sports, and entertainment company.
In 2011, Thohir joined the consortium that bought the NBA Philadelphia 76ers. A year later, he
became the majority owner of a Major League Soccer club in the United States, D.C. United.
In November 2013, he acquired a controlling stake of 70% in F.C. Internazionale Milano, becoming
Inter’s 21st President and the 1st Asian in Serie A Italy. His knowledge and experience in managing
one of the biggest European football clubs have brought him to become a Board Member in Oxford
United F.C. in England, August 2018.
Apart from sports businesses, Thohir also owns Mahaka Media, one of the leading media companies
in Indonesia with multi-platform channels such as TV, radio stations, a newspaper, digital content
and distribution, and out-of-home.
Thohir is also active in sports organizations. He is currently on the Honorary Board of the Indonesian
Basketball Association (PERBASI), President of the Indonesian National Olympic Committee (NOC), a
Board Member in International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Asia, and a Central Board Member of
the FIBA since September 2014. Previously, he was the President of the Southeast Asia Basketball
Association (SEABA) and Indonesian Chef de Mission at the London Olympics in 2012.
Thohir led the committee in organizing the 2nd biggest multi-sports event in the world, the 18th
Asian Games 2018 in Jakarta, considered the best Asian Games ever. In the same year of 2018, he
was appointed to lead the re-election of Joko Widodo’s presidential campaign.
Erick Thohir has been elected as a new member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC),
which took place in Lausanne, Switzerland, in June 2019.
